Karen Sterling

Karen Sterling provides Five Prime Advisors valuation and analytics support.  She is also affiliated with Avalon Securities. Previously, Dr. Sterling worked as an independent consultant, providing scientific due diligence and equity research services to her buy side clients.  In addition to a background in healthcare, Dr. Sterling has experience in the credit markets, particularly the high yield and distressed debt sectors. Her work in high yield debt includes tenure at Fridson Investment Advisors, a credit strategies advisory firm, where she developed and implemented its quantitative trading models.

Dr. Sterling holds a Ph.D., M.A. and M.Phil. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from Columbia University.  Her academic research focused on breast cancer and leukemia. Dr. Sterling's academic research has been published in the peer-reviwed journals Oncogene and the Journal of Biological Chemistry.  She has also been published in the Journal of Fixed Income, the Journal of Portfolio Management, and The Investment Professional.  Dr. Sterling holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the New York Society of Security Analysts.

In 2003 and 2005, Ms. Sterling spent two seasons working as a research scuba diver in Antarctica, funded by the National Science Foundation.
